Neeyat (2023) Hindi Movie
Set in a secluded Scottish castle, Neeyat follows the story of Ashish Kapoor (Ram Kapoor), an exiled billionaire whose birthday celebration turns into a crime scene. After a series of mysterious deaths, CBI Officer Meera Rao (Vidya Balan) is called to investigate. As she delves deeper, she uncovers dark secrets and motives among the guests, each with their own reasons to harm Kapoor.
Performances
Vidya Balan delivers a commendable performance as Meera Rao, portraying a determined and sharp-witted detective. Her portrayal adds depth to the character, despite the film’s shortcomings in other areas. The ensemble cast, including Ram Kapoor and Rahul Bose, contribute solid performances, though some characters lack the development needed to make a significant impact.
Direction and Cinematography
Anu Menon’s direction attempts to capture the essence of classic murder mysteries but falls short due to a predictable narrative and lack of suspense. The film’s pacing is uneven, with certain segments dragging, leading to a loss of viewer engagement. Cinematographer Andreas Neo captures the eerie ambiance of the castle setting effectively, enhancing the film’s atmosphere.
Final Verdict
Neeyat had the potential to be a gripping murder mystery but ultimately fails to captivate. Despite strong performances, particularly by Vidya Balan, the film’s predictable plot and lack of suspense make it a forgettable experience for fans of the genre.
