The Executioner (2024) Korean Movie

Synopsis

”I, The Executioner” (2024), directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, is the anticipated sequel to the 2015 hit “Veteran.” The film brings back Hwang Jung-min as the seasoned detective Seo Do-cheol, leading his Major Crime Investigation Division in a high-stakes pursuit of a cunning serial killer. The narrative intensifies with the introduction of rookie officer Park Sun-woo, portrayed by Jung Hae-in, adding layers of complexity to the unfolding investigation.

Critics have noted a tonal shift from the original film’s comedic undertones to a more serious and gritty approach in this installment. Brian Tallerico from RogerEbert.com observes that the sequel “takes this world of cop chaos a little more seriously than its predecessor while losing none of its entertainment value.” Similarly, Screen Daily highlights that despite the more sober approach, the film “moves along at a brisk pace, the action set pieces and the whodunit elements equally compelling.”
