Roached (2023) Hindi

Synopsis

”Roached,” directed by Kshitij Sharma, is a Hindi-language drama that delves into the psychological turmoil of a timid housewife, Anu (Deeya Dey), who finds herself trapped at home during the COVID-19 pandemic with her overbearing and abusive husband, Manav (Rudolfo Rajeev Hubert). The film explores themes of domestic abuse, psychological entrapment, and the surreal manifestations of Anu’s deteriorating mental state, symbolized by the persistent presence of an oversized cockroach.

Critics have praised “Roached” for its originality and sharp script. Despite its micro-budget of approximately $6,000 and a minimal crew, the film manages to deliver a compelling narrative. Director Kshitij Sharma’s inventive storytelling and stylistic choices, such as adopting the cockroach’s point of view, have been highlighted as significant strengths. The lead performances are also noteworthy; Rudolfo Rajeev Hubert convincingly portrays the sadistic and manipulative Manav, while Deeya Dey embodies Anu’s gentle yet resilient character, effectively conveying her internal struggle.
